Just Sayin’, 2012
It’s more or less summer, which means I’m back to hanging out
on the oceanfront boardwalk in Virginia Beach, stalking people with interesting
body art.
Don’t ask me why I’m fascinated by this stuff. I have
absolutely no interest in having any of it myself. The more intricate the
designs, the more I wonder what they’re going to look like down the road when
the wearer’s body has “settled” a bit.
But that’s not important. What’s important now is that there
are lots of people walking along the boardwalk with all kinds of body art. There are so many, in fact, that I have the
luxury of picking out only the best examples. And who knows? I might even build
up the nerve to ask to photograph some of these people from the front, rather
than the back.
But I’m still a little hesitant to do that because I don’t
want people to pose. I want to photograph them in situ, affecting whatever stance and expression initially caught
my eye.
Look for more boardwalk people from me this summer.
Oh, good--I'll look forward to that. My son informed me that he went and got a tattoo last year. Here I thought I'd made it with a kid who wasn't gonna' be all tatted up. Sigh. I must be old, 'cause I totally don't "get it."
